Jaco & Aletta
Jaco and Aletta are dear friends of mine. They almost booked me a year in advance as their wedding photographer. When it was time to meet up with them just before their wedding day, I didn’t have a sample of the Fine Art Wedding Album, because it was still new at that stage. They decided to be adventurous and went for the Fine Arts Wedding Album (which they have not yet seen). I explained to them that there would be more black and white, sepia and blue tone photos – seeing that it is a Fine Arts Album. Aletta was thrilled about the blue tone photos. As they say: “Purple is the new black!” And so it was! Their colours were black and white, silver and red. They got married at Oakfield Farm in Gauteng. The architecture and setting was perfect for their type of classic pictures. Normally people tell me (and this is a fact) that they love black and white or sepia and blue tone photos or some kind of filter effect. My theory and explanation is that: most people see everything in colour. Now when you discard the colour and change the tone of the picture, it’s no longer “real” anymore and it gives the picture a different (memorable or historical) feel. When you play back the wedding in your mind's eye, you see it in colour. Sometimes you can even remember the smell and sound, but when you see a black and white (or tone altered) photograph, it's different and gives it another fresh, memorable taste. These days people love the classic look (I must admit, sometimes I also prefer black and white more). On the day it rained a bit and this was my second wedding that I photographed with my
new camera. It was an absolute joy and passion!
